“Al Purdy Was Here” Documentary

Written by | Tom Comet

Back in 2014, we shot with director Brian Johnson for his recently released documentary entitled Al Purdy Was Here.  Al Purdy was a very well known Canadian poet who spent most of his life living and writing from a small cabin located in rural Prince Edward County; a couple of hours east of Toronto. The cabin is a feature in the film, and Brian wanted some aerial shots of the cabin, the local town and Al Purdy’s final resting place at the local graveyard.

Above is the trailer for the documentary, and be sure to check out the finished film now! Yes, there are lots of awesome aerial drone shots but, more importantly, it will be a great film. If you are not familiar with Al Purdy’s poetry (which I wasn’t) I strongly suggest checking that out as well. Particularly, some of the poems that he reads himself. He has an amazing voice, and I can see why he is considered one of Canada’s top literary voices.

Al Purdy passed away in 2000 and this film will be a great tribute to his life. It was a real pleasure to be a part of this project.
