TELUS CANADA DAY IN TORONTO

For Canada Day this year the DroneBoy team was presented with an amazing opportunity, as well as a huge challenge, when we were asked to live stream one of the largest fireworks shows in Canada for Telus. Our task was to mix live feeds, from multiple drones, flying up to 1000’ AGL, in and around a HUGE fireworks show over the waterfront off downtown Toronto.

This awesome drone footage would be mixed with wireless and wired ground-based cameras, as well as remote audio sources to create a seamless, 18-minute-long edit that would live stream to Facebook. Projects like this don’t come along every day but when they do, a solid team willing to do a lot of hard work, practice and preparation is required to get the job done right.

xXx3: The Return of Xander Cage

The DroneBoy team recently had the amazing opportunity to use our Heavy Lifter drone on the set of xXx3: The Return of Xander Cage. Obviously we can’t go into the details of what we shot but let’s just say it was pretty darn awesome! It was the first time that we had the opportunity to fly high end cinema cameras through that scale of pyrotechnic explosions, live fire and spectacular mayhem before. We simply can’t wait for the movie to come out next year to see how it all turned out…

Niagara Falls in Blue

We recently had the amazing opportunity to shoot some spectacular nighttime footage of Niagara Falls, in partnership with the Scleroderma Society of Ontario, for World Scleroderma Day on June 29th. The falls were lit blue to raise awareness for Scleroderma, a rare disease that causes hardening and scarring of the skin and internal organs. This was truly a wonderful organization to work with, and we could not be more proud of the results.

UPDATE: So far over 115,000 people have viewed the video we shot for the Scleroderma Society at Niagara Falls. This is great news for everyone, and a good example of how a well shot drone video can get a LOT of attention, for whatever you may be trying to get people’s eyeballs to focus on.

Drone Safety Bulletin

What you should know before you hire a drone team

Drone Safety Bulletin

Our team has been noticing an upswing in the number of “questionable” drone operations carried out by others out there in the world these days, and in order to address this in a positive way we have put together this new Drone Safety Bulletin. To be honest, there is a lot of conflicting information out there, and some folks probably don’t know what is legal or not. We hope to fix this with this simple one-page bulletin aimed at professional drone operations. We will be sending this out to directors, producers, venue and location managers and anyone else that we figure will be hiring drone teams to do their shoots. Feel free to pass this bulletin around and call us if you have any questions about how to stay compliant while working with this amazing new drone technology.
